TME Troubleshoots

Your biggest challenge

“We’re not sure what to post about and it feels like our content is all over the place.”

What tme says

Firstly, make sure you’ve clarified your content pillars or key messages. This is important in building brand presence and competency in the market. Think of the pillars as overarching themes that cover the things you want to be known for (who you are and what you do).

Defining these pillars helps you focus your content planning so your messages get their appropriate time in the market and your audience learns what to associate your brand with. If you’re producing a lot of content, you can review the content pillars every quarter.

Secondly, where you post should be determined by where your main audience is and what you post should be determined by what your audience is on the platform for. Are they there to learn something new? Are they there for entertainment? Or maybe are they there to connect with others?

If you’re working in a small team, be honest about the resources you can allocate to managing multiple platforms or accounts. There’s nothing wrong with focusing on one platform to start with and some argue that’s the better way to go. Just make sure to get your brand’s handle on future potential platforms.

Once you’ve got these two things down, build a content calendar to map out when you want to publish socials posts, newsletters, blogs etc., and to help you get into the habit of posting.

Creating a content calendar makes it easier to see upcoming work, what messages need to go out and what your team needs to prepare in order for that content to be produced (photography, videography, quotes, interviews).
